Filipino Catholics: Catholic Till Death

Filipino Catholics: Catholic Till Death

*Before anyone gets mad and wants to ignorantly argue that since I am not a Filipino I have no right to speak about such topics, or that I am somehow racist, they need to know that I have been around Filipinos for years and have personal experience talking to Filipino Catholics as well as being told about Filipino Catholic mentality through word of mouth from Filipino friends who were discussing this topic. I have also been to the Philippines. And one thing a person cannot argue with is Scripture! Keep that in mind.

Priests tell Filipinos what to believe

A lot of Filipinos tend to think that a part of being Filipino is to be nothing else but Roman Catholic. Catholicism and “Filipinoness” have coincided to equal the same thing in some circles. What they tend to forget is that the only reason Catholicism is even in the Philippines is because of the Spanish colonizers that ruled the Philippines for hundreds of years. Colonial mentality has made the Catholic Church to be a prestigious organization that you must join in order to “stick with your roots.” As Filipino overseas workers go abroad they maintain ties with Catholic churches and think that is what Christianity is. Really though, if Filipinos wanted to truly stick with their religious roots, they would practice spiritism, animism, witchcraft, magic, sorcery, and other occult nonsense. These were the religions of tribal people groups who originally inhabited the Philippines before the Spanish (Roman Catholics) and Chinese (who influenced the islands with Ancestral worship) showed up. A few tribal groups still exist and worship their nature dieties and spirits as well. To be perfectly honest though, the majority of Catholic Filipinos in a way do maintain such roots because of their syncretistic mentality to mix Catholic religion with paganism and superstitions. This is because Catholicism is a “cause and effect” religion just like paganism. Catholicism goes well with superstitious beliefs because a person has to “do” in order to “get” a desired result. Catholicism is itself, a form of paganism.

The Catholic Church is pagan idol worship

The majority of Filipinos who are Catholic do not understand the Bible and barely ever read it. In fact, Catholics in general most often do not know what is in the Bible because the Roman Catholic Church does not emphasize Bible study or strong teaching from God’s Word. They are too busy promoting prayer practices, recitations of Church creeds and pre-written prayers. Most Catholics pray to Mary or some other dead person more often than they do to God. This is idolatry. Most of the time when a Filipino Catholic even reads the Bible it is for superstitious purposes, not for study. They treat the Word of God like incantations, this is blasphemy.

Most Filipinos stick to Catholicism because of family tradition and intense fear of being abandoned by their parents. If a Filipino reads the Bible and becomes a true Christian, as in born again into a new life with Christ, then there is a chance the family will reject them and isolate themselves away from him. This fear of becoming disloyal to the family is only another one of the Devil’s schemes that binds Filipinos into a false religious system. The other fear of becoming disloyal to the Church gives a person the fear of damnation since catholicism teaches that salvation can never be obtained outside of the Roman Church. The effects of this evil bondage makes it so that a person can witness to a Filipino, and prove to them the truth of the Bible, that the Catholic church is a lie, and they still are blinded by their fear of offending their parents and local priests. In fact, priests impress this fear on their church members, especially if a young person starts to question Catholic dogma.

Self flagellation, a mockery of Christ

Most Catholic Filipinos will be highly offended at what evangelical Christians believe or claim. They appeal to emotions about how something cannot be offensive and also be true. This is a fallacy. In fact, the Bible says that gospel is offensive. In Galations 5:11 Paul mentions that the cross is an “offense.” This is because unbelievers are people who only think in the flesh and cannot please God (Romans 8:8). True believers understand the power behind the message of the cross, but the Catholic church has profaned it and made it into something else which is a lie: it is just a small gesture in the way for salvation that Christ died on the cross as it does not save anyone unless they do works. Most Filipino Catholics have absolutely no understanding of what the cross even means and do not really comprehend why Jesus Christ died on it. 1 Corinthians 1:18 says, “For to those who are perishing the message of the cross is foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is God’s power.” So the interpretation of the true message of the cross when told to most Catholics, the fact that Jesus Christ died for the sins of those who believe and are given free grace without any works, is seen as foolish. The most bizarre underatanding of the cross can be seen in the Filipino Catholics who mix extreme superstitions with the Catholic idea of pennance. These Filipinos parade through the streets practicing mortification of the flesh. They practice self flagellation with spikey shards on a cord whipping their back over and over as they walk and carry a cross. After this they are literally nailed through the palms with nails and feet and put up on a cross to act like Jesus when He died. These activities are not officially approved by the Roman Catholic church but it is only an extension of where superstitious Catholicism based on works-righteousness can create. The Roman Church also does not condem these acts as blasphemy either and allows such people who are ignorantly mocking Jesus Christ to remain members of the Catholic Church.

Catholicism teaches that the worshipper must practice self-expiation of sins and earn grace from God. So grace is not given freely, but it is earned through human merit. This contradicts the Bible where it says in Romans 3:28, “For we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from works of law,” and 4:5, “But to the one who does not work, but believes on Him who declares righteous the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness.” And Galatians 2:16 says,

…yet we know that no one is justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will be justified.”

So the Bible clealy shows that salvation is by faith in Christ alone and not earned by human effort. The Bible contradicts the Catholic Churches teachings. Human effort does not save anyone from hell and only adds to their sins because it rejects God who saves; and it promotes self-rightesouness.

Now what is truly offensive is what the Catholic Church teaches as anethamas. An anethema is an ecclesiastical ban or a curse. It results in a person being excommunicated from the Catholic Church. According to Catholicism there is no salvation outside of their church, so if you become anathema you are basically being damned to hell. Guided by Truth has a list of anathemas found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Complete Word Study Dictionary, and the New Catholic Dictionary that will damn people to hell according to the Catholic Church which can be seen here: http://blog.guidedbytruth.com/anathema.php. Notice that salvation by faith alone is considered anathema as well as believing in the completion of the Bible without the Apocryphal books. The belief that infants do not need to be baptized, belief that the eucharist is not really Christ’s blood and body present in the bread and wine, the doctrine of repentance to recieve salvation permanently and freely, and more are anathematized by the Catholic Church. In fact, the Roman Church would burn people at the stake and label them heretics for believing such truths. This means that Roman Catholicism damns every evangelical to hell. This is considered law and inspired by God to them and if you do not agree you are not following God. No matter what anyone claiming to be Catholic says, they cannot change the facts of the Roman Church’s teachings. Many Catholics will try to dillute such hard teachings and claim that somehow evangelicals can still go to heaven eventually, but this is not what the law of the Church really teaches.

The Bible contradicts what the Catholic Church teaches for salvation as it is very clear on how a person is saved. Sola fide in theological terminology means “faith alone.” This means that salvation is not by works, but by faith only, so no one can earn salvation by doing good works as the catholic Church teaches. The following is a list of some verses from the Bible that teach salvation by faith alone:

Rom. 3:28-30, “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.

Rom. 4:5, “But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,

Gal. 2:16, “nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.

Eph. 2:8, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.

How can a Catholic argue against these verses or somehow claim the Church domga is the same as the Bible? They cannot! Does God lie? Does He contradict Himself? No!

Filipino Catholics need to stop being lazy within their culture and get out and research their religion. Filipinos tend to live fatalistically and unconcerned with change or preparing for things. This attitude is known as bahala na which is Tagalog for “come what may.” This is part of the reason why many Filipinos do not care to leave the church or strive to find truth. When confronted with the Biblical passages as well as historical facts about Catholicism they just shrug their shoulders and say things like, “I am Filipino man! This is who I was born as and I will neve change!” Some will get angry and say, “I will be Catholic until I die! I am Filipino! I will be Catholic till death!” This is ignorant behavior and only leaves these types of people in spiritual darkness based on an oppressive works based religion.

The atrocities of the Catholic Church are numerous and with a little research many Filipinos could know the truth of Catholic Church history. One major atrocity is the fact they have pushed their religion on Filipinos in the past who overwhelmingly embraced this false church because of the racist colonial mentality caused by the Spanish Catholics. Filipino Catholics need to get rid of pride and arrogance and humble themselves. They should really research through the Scriptures for what God is teaching people. Their eyes will be opened as most Filipino Catholics go to churches where the Bible is never opened, never explained or even spoken of. It is sad. Hopefully, any Filipino Catholic will be inspired by this blog post to open up their Bibles and really see the truth. Filipinos involved with Catholicism need to stop being lazy with their spiritual lives by letting priests tell them what to believe and stop behaving ignorantly about religion and seek out truth!

  1. I am Filipino, and only by the grace of God, I was saved from the chains of Catholicism. Everything you said about why FIlipinos don’t leave the church is true. FIlipinos don’t care to research into Roman Catholicism. They are perfectly fine being ignorant about the history and dogmas of the Roman Catholic Church. My prayers go out to my friends and family that have not seen the truth behind Catholicism.

  2. I must say I agree w/ you. It took me mos. or should i say yrs to finally realize that i was being deceived. I am so thankful to God for using my grandma and my brother in revealing the truth to me. At some point, I kinda hated my grandma for telling the truth. But I’m glad she didn’t give up on me.Praise God for everything. I just pray my loved ones would realize that too before it’s too late 😦 . . . I tried to tell them but they wouldn’t listen. So I’m lifting it up to God.

    • I wish more filipinos wouldn’t be stubborn and get mad when someone tells them the truth and that they would just read their bibles and stop getting so angry.

  3. I believe there are sincere Catholics , caught up in the subtle deception of the catholic church. 😥 I have to admit . . .now that I’m free, i can truly say i am saved and is enjoying a personal relationship w/ the savior.I can only pray that they would someday(sooner i hope) experience and enjoy the same relationship i have w/ my savior.

    • That is great you had family to help you see the truth. Most Filipinos have family trying to keep them in deception. Also, just because someone is sincer in a false system of belief does not mean they are automatically saved by default. If they do understand the truth why are they still in the church of rome?

      • Yes, I get what you mean and that’s not what I meant. What I’m trying to say is one way or another, God will find a way to reveal the truth to those who truly love Him. And those who truly love Him will eventually seek for the truth despite everything. In my case for example, at first, I tried to justify my beliefs w/ my own standard of what’s right and wrong. But it was only when I really took the time to read and re-read the scripture that I finally realized i could be wrong.and I was. 🙂

    • What you say about those who really love God will find the truth and be recued from deception is true. I believe that if a person sincerely loves God it is because the Holy Spirit reveals truth to them and they embrace it and God pulls them out by His will. Others will remain in Catholicism and remain under God’s wrath and will not have forgiveness or any relationship with God, and they will desire to be in such deception and hate the truth of the gospel. Others will remain neutral and unconcerned with truth and would rather have “peace on earth” and not have any confrontations and will reject the truth of the bible and remain in their sins as well. This is the nature of man to be totally depraved and only desire their own wills and their own self righteious standards.

  4. I just couldn’t believe it took me that long to see the truth(well, I admit I wasn’t really a fan of bible reading so I guess that explains my blind faith) hehe That’s why I encourage every Catholic out there to read your bible.

  5. I was baptized as a Catholic and grew up in a Catholic environment but when we migrated here in Visayas when I was 7 I went to school in a evangelical Christian School and I thanked God for that because it made me realize a lot of things about RCC’s wrong teachings, Pope and etc then taught me the truth about Jesus and true salvation. A few months ago I thought of searching “Is Roman Catholic Church a Cult?” in the net and found this site http://remnantofgod.org/ where I found a lot of stuffs that will prove RCC is so wrong. I will also agree that most Catholics doesn’t even read the Bible. We Filipinos doesn’t really research history, Jose Rizal which is our national hero already warned us about RCC in his books and attacked their dogmas, beliefs and teachings. RCC and other cults here in the Philippines wants us to be ignorant about the truth so that they can control the people, the government and more importantly to gain money.

P.S. Keep writing about the truth and God Bless.

    • Wow man I am glad you found the truth too! Yes, the RCC is a political force and they are about dominating and always have been.

Remember that the truth is in the Bible alone and it is my faith alone and Christ alone we are saved from our sins and get freely go to heaven and be with God on judgment day. RCC will tell you you must earn grace and just hope you can get in a high spot in purgatory so you get out faster. RCC offers no hope. Its all a lie and one of the buggest cults in the wolrd.

Being Filipino has nothing to do with religion, but everything to do with culture, but of course Catholicism has reall set up camp really strongly in Filipino culture. But there are still evangelical Christian Filipinos who are Filipino as well. You dont have to be RCC to be Filipino.

Also you MUST NOT be RCC if you want to get saved and have God forgive you.

  6. Thanks for the bad publications but the CHURCH has been there for the past 2000 years now. And I can assure everyone here that after your life expires and your children’s children, THIS CHURCH will stand because this is the CHURCH of JESUS CHRIST!

    • Oh really? How do you figure that the church is “JESUS’S CHURCH” and that it is mandatory that we join he RCC? Where in the Bible does it say the Vatican is te leader of the entire world for all Christians? And it will surely crumble just likeall false religions will when Christ returns.

  7. I am sad to hear that most of the comments here are judgmental of the Catholic faith of many Filipinos. I questioned my failth for a time until I did what you suggested in this blog. I did my research. My sister, who happened to join a Born Again Christian group, challenged me to read the Bible and explore my Catholic Faith – its history, including scandals and dubious practices, as others label them. I did my homework in the past by reading the Bible, attending various Christian churches (i.e. Iglesia ni Kristo, Baptist Church, Born Again Christian communities, etc.) and observing their practices in search of “enlightenment”. I am happy to say that these experiences have all the more strengthened my Catholic Christian faith opposite what others say in this blog.

I regret to read that the Catholic faith here is pictured as a whore. It’s sacred statues appearing as idols and customs/traditions presented as mockery of God. Let it be made clear to all that not all practices cited in the internet are authorized by the Church. An example itself is the re-enactment of crucifixion among Filipinos. My only lament is that the RCC is not that aggressive enough in correcting members’ practices of talking to statues and paying more attention to beings other than JC.

I am sad that the 2,000 year history of the RCC has been characterized by scandals and shortcomings. At the same time, it is a pity that many people who call themselves “Christians” use these to proliferate the teachings they believe in.

In the meantime, I am also thankful to all your mockery as this has strengthened me towards getting closer to God. As a Catholic, I have accepted JC as my Lord and Savior and believe that I am saved from damnation by the grace of God. I continue to hear Holy Mass and pray for people like you.

    God bless all of us!

    • In what way has it strengthned your Catholic faith? What evidence pointed you in that direction? Be specific and provide proof. Don’t just say, “Ohhh people are mean to Catholics and I DID MY RESEARCH and it ONLY strengthened my Catholic faith even more! yessiirrreee!”
Anyone can say such a thing, but provide a reason for it. I could simply say I did my research and it only strengthened my faith as an evangelical Christian and strengthened my rejection of the RCC….get my point? You can act as self righteous as you want and claim that you pray for peole like me (which is total bull), but I would rather have you address my arguments against Filipino catholicism instead.

If you really did your research, you must have chosen to ignore a lot.

  8. Oh, yes, it has strengthened my Catholic Christian faith after all and I am not here to cite Biblical references in a debate style. For one, I neither talk to nor wipe anything on statues anymore. Nobody called my attention on this before as a child. Jesus, through the Bible, did and my experiences with people like you. I do my best to focus more on JC rather than to any other being like saints, angels, etc. I have chosen to be Christ-centered in all my prayers and in my ways. In a nut shell, my personal experience tells me that I can still be a Bible-reading Catholic without falling into the snares of some people who profess to be Christians and look at most Catholics as not Christians at all. Although I recognize the supremacy of the papal infallibility, I still make it a point that it is still JC who rules above me. I would not want to be labeled as “blind” by other “Christians” because I want to prove to them that I can still reconcile my Catholic Christian faith with Biblical light. Let there be no monopoly of the word “Christian” in this discussion.

I know it would be hard for you to understand this but it is an experience that is of personal nature that you have nothing to do anything with. Nevertheless, I am still thankful and praise the Lord for your queries.

My prayer goes not just for you but for all of us. Amen!

    • So all of the contradicitions and sinful things popes have said throughout catholic history you adhere to as infallible?
All of the contradictions with catholic domga compared to the bible I showed in my article dont matter to you? Seriously if something contradicts the bible it cannot be true, unless the bible is not true.

  9. I think you are taking things from a historical perspective. A church that has been around for 2,000 years would naturally experience a lot of things including scandals. I know a local church that has been around for a few decades; and yet, scandals have already abound. Even JC himself had ancestors who were prostitutes. Yes, “all” popes and everyone has sinned. Let those who have not sinned cast the first stone!

Let us leave the past and commune with Christ in the present. Let us work with what we have in common instead of debating on what is white and what is black. The late Pope John Paul II has already apologized in public regarding RCC abuses. The Church continues to do so. Hence, please do not escalate anymore because it is not doing any help at all.

What you showed in your articles do matter. However, they only invite antagonism instead of brotherhood in Christ. In lieu of criticisms, how about writing about faith, hope and charity without looking at Catholics as if they are non-Christians and those who label themselves as “Christians” as the only true “Christians”.

I am a Catholic and I work hard to be a Christian in deed. There are many things that contradict the Bible if you read it literally. Take note, I haven’t seen the word, “Bible” in the Gospels but instead I see “Scriptures”. That’s literal, for sure.

Again, I thank God for strengthening my faith in JC through an encounter with you.

    • Your arguments are not valid. The word bible does not need to be in the bible for it to be an accurate word to describe the Scriptures. There are many theological terms in the bible that are not written down. Trinity for instance, and if you want to go further pretty much all of Catholic beliefs are not written in the bible, words like purgatory are not in the bible.
The real issue is this: Is the CONCEPT in the bible? Well the Trinity concept is very well established in the Bible, so is eschatology (study of the end times), and these words are not literally written in the bible. But what is interesting is things like a pope, purgatory, mary as the queen of heaven are not written in the bible nor are these concepts anywhere to be found in the bible. That is what is wrong with your beliefs and mine.

The Pope may have apologized for the child rape scandels, but such a church allowing things or brushing it under the rug shows how unholy the RCC actually is. Also the Pope has no apologized for claiming he is the pope and taking Christ’s place on earth (such blasphemy), nor has he apologized for his false doctrine of works based righteousness.

Romans 3 is a good chapter to read for you. There is no salvation but through faith alone through Christ alone. not a chruch or a pope, cardinal, or priest is over any Christian to make them holy. All of our righteousness is like filthy rags to God which is said in Isaiah. You think you can earn your way and do good deeds, that is your problem. That is the RCC’s problem as well as idolatry and pagan behavior.

      • Hello there. I feel remorseful that most of the respondents to this blog appear too ignorant about the seeds of their Catholic faith. You cannot blame them. I notice that Catholics who convert to other religions do so because 1) ignorance –they were not catechized well 2) they underwent personal problems and someone from the other side consoled and introduced a newly-found spiritual relationship with them which they later liked and 3) they were amazed by programs, not rituals, which their newly found spiritual relationship gives.
Where do these people belong then? The RCC does not claim that there are other saviors apart from Christ. I don’t know where do other people get that idea? The Church’s history is full of lore and antiquity. If the New Testament (as part of the Christian Bible) is a documentation of the history of the early Church, does this mean to say that our history has ceased to exist after Christ died right to this very day? If Church History continues to this day, does this mean that it should continue to be part of the New Testament (or the Bible itself)?
I have no intentions of replying to this blog anymore as I do not find merit in doing so. It is indeed true that relationship in God is personal. It is by discussing, or even critiquing, all sorts of doctrines and issues do we divide ourselves as Christians. By continuing to participate in this blog, I find it divisive and contrary to the values that I uphold. I will pray for your enlightenment in Jesus’ name.

        • You seem to ignore the fact the people who leave the RCC are people who actually read the bible and did not take an interpretation forced by the RCC. The RCC does not let people interpret the bible.
You are also making a baseless claim that th RCC is the direct continuation of the new testament church. You are also making false ideas that somehow the church has to be a direct line from one organization. Nothing in the bible teaches this.
You ignored all of the scripture I mentioned and did not answer for it. The one who is divisive is you and you are arrogant and ignorant with what you are claiming. The RCC is the divisive church that has labeled it Anethema (God cursed) to be evangelical or protestant. The RCC is literally saying all Christians who are not RCC members and believe in the doctrine of grace alone through faith alove are going to go to hell. You are a hypocrite.

  10. as i read your post, most of them are truth. from the time i was born, i was a roman catholic because our ancestors are catholic too. i read my bible yet not everyday and a passage from exodus mentioned about idolatry. i study this by reading many passages from the bible. and i was so happy that God had shown me the light and lead me to the truth. now, i am planning to change my religion but still searching for the right congregation. it is true that one factor that i cannot easily change my religion is all about my parents. yet i believe that time is all i need is to prepare myself. people start to question me and maybe my family will reject me. but what matters to me the most is to follow the footsteps of the Lord and to do what is really right. many people experience also this situation and all we need is to pray for them. it’s not easy being in this situation, but once Christ has entered into our life, He will never give up on us. sooner i know i can enjoy my personal relationship with our Lord.

    • That is wonderful. God’s Word really does open peoples eyes to the truth if they just read it. The Holy Spirit convicts us of what is correct. I am glad you are realizing the dangers of the RCC and their false doctrines. Be strong and understand that our inheritance is Jesus Christ Himself and we must take up our cross and follow Him. People, including our own family, might reject us but that is the cost of following Christ. Be strong and I will pray for you. Salvation is through faith alone, through Christ alone. The only authority comes from Scripture and no one else when it comes to matters of faith. No pope can save us. Jesus is our high priest who stands before the Father to declare us righteous and we ourselves are made priests in Christ. There is no need to call anyone Father on earth or go to any priest for forgiveness. We have full access to God ourselves.

    • Praying to someone and asking them to do things for them and giving them veneration is worship. The Catholic Church even admits it is worship of Mary and claims she is the subject of worship:

“…when she [Mary] is the subject of preaching and worship she prompts the faithful to come to her Son…” (Vatican Council II, p. 420). See quote in Context

We are not to pray to anyone but to God who is the only mediator for us as the Bible strictly says. Mary is not a mediator nor does the Bible even claim she is.

      “For there is one God
and one mediator between God and humanity,
      Christ Jesus, Himself human,
who gave Himself—a ransom for all,
a testimony at the proper time.”

      1 Timothy 2:5-6

How can you explain this verse when it says ONE mediator between God and man being Jesus. Nowhere does it say Mary. Also Jesus can mediate for us because He is perfect. Mary was a sinner. Mary the very blessed woman, needed a savior. Only sinners need saviors: “And Mary said: ‘My soul exalts the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,'” (Luke 1:46-47).

God made it possible for you to directly communicate with Him. We don’t need Mary who was only human to pray for us. She cannot hear you anyway she is in the other realm and she is not omnipresent like God is.

  11. As an aside, the statement from Vatican II was originally written in Latin, and the word “worship” was actually the Latin “colo”, which approximates more to the word venerate. We honor and venerate Mary, but we do not worship her in the sense that we worship God.

    • It says worship….if Catholics knew this theyw ould have written venerate and not the word worship in that when they translated.

Veneration of a person is being in awe of someone or revering someone totally. The way catholics venerate mary is a form of worship. We should only venerate God and Christ.

  12. To prove that those who died in a state of grace were not dead, Jesus said to the Sadducees (who didn’t believe in the resurrection which is why they were “sad you see” — “‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living” (Matt 22:32). Jesus said that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were still alive.

Those who say “Why do you Catholics pray to dead saints” need to understand that those who die in Christ are not dead. Catholics affirm that they are alive and in the presence of Christ and that they can intercede for us as much as my father or I can intercede for each other.

Mary and the saints do not answer our prayers, any more than I answer the prayers of a friend. Rather, Mary, the saints and you and I all are intercessors. We do not answer the prayers, we simply intercede with the Father through his Son Jesus.

I always ask people how a “dead guy” like Moses could be talking to Jesus about things that are taking place on earth (Lk 9:31).

    • They are dead in the sense of departing from this world. They are not alive here. They also are not God and cannot hear you because they are in the other world.

No one is omnipresent to hear and know every prayer anyone says. Only God is. What you are saying is Mary or any saint can actually hear every prayer anyone in the entire world is praying and also simultaneously. What you are doing if praying to a dead saint who is alive in heaven is giving them an attribute only held by God and thus putting them up on the same level as God and also ignoring the fact God is the one who hears your prayers. This is simply wrong. And it is also a form of worship whether you want to nit pick latin or not.

Also you are ignoring the verses that state that Jesus Christ is the mediator, the one mediator between God and man. You are equating saints with god status. This is blasphemy.

      • As Scripture indicates, those in heaven are aware of the prayers of those on earth. This can be seen, for example, in Revelation 5:8, where John depicts the saints in heaven offering our prayers to God under the form of “golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” But if the saints in heaven are offering our prayers to God, then they must be aware of our prayers. They are aware of our petitions and present them to God by interceding for us.

But asking one person to pray for you in no way violates Christ’s mediatorship, as can be seen from considering the way in which Christ is a mediator. First, Christ is a unique mediator between man and God because he is the only person who is both God and man. He is the only bridge between the two, the only God-man. But that role as mediator is not compromised in the least by the fact that others intercede for us. Furthermore, Christ is a unique mediator between God and man because he is the Mediator of the New Covenant (Heb. 9:15, 12:24), just as Moses was the mediator (Greek mesitas) of the Old Covenant (Gal. 3:19–20).

The intercession of fellow Christians—which is what the saints in heaven are—also clearly does not interfere with Christ’s unique mediatorship because in the four verses immediately preceding 1 Timothy 2:5, Paul says that Christians should interceed: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and pleasing to God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:1–4). Clearly, then, intercessory prayers offered by Christians on behalf of others is something “good and pleasing to God,” not something infringing on Christ’s role as mediator.

        • The Timothy Epistle was written to an earthly audience. The saints in glory see ‘face to face’ with God, so they have no need for Scriptural admonition. The passage does not apply to the saints in heaven, so the idea that this means that the saints in heaven need to intercede for us is going beyond what is written and extending the meaning beyond what was intended. It is absurd to use this as a proof text to say that the saints are interceding for us.

However, it does indicate that we as saints on earth do need to be interceding for each other and for the rest of the world. The word for prayer carries with it the meaning of ‘wish’ (euchomai) and ‘exchange,’ (pros) so the idea of giving our wishes up to God. These wishes, as Paul indicates, should be offered up on behalf of all men.

    • No, but if they are in heaven they cannot hear you. Revelation 5:8 has nothing to do with every saint in heaven hearing your prayers as you pray them. It simply says there were bowls that were the prayers of the saints poured out. Also this was John in a visionary state and does not mean it literally happens like that where all our prayers and collected in a bowl. You need to know the difference from apocalyptic and literal literature in the Bible.

  13. Stop spreading lies about Catholicism! Do you think your fake Church or being a non-believer makes it okay for you to be downright disrespectful towards other religions? No!

    • Think what you want but what I said is true about Catholicism. Truth may offend those who do not believe but it is not disrespect.
